Privacy Policy
Usual Suspects is an app for crews — running, cycling, and other group activities where people train and race together: posting outings, chatting, and tracking races. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we do with it. The short version: we collect what the app needs to work, we don't sell it, and you can delete all of it from inside the app.
What we collect
- Account: your email address (used to sign you in with a one-time code) and the display name you choose.
- Profile photo: optional, if you set one.
- What you post: messages, photos, GIFs, reactions, runs, races, RSVPs, and saved meeting spots — shared with the crews you post them to.
- Location: only when you choose "I'm here" to save a meeting spot. We store the spot's coordinates; we never track your location in the background.
- Push notification token: a device identifier Apple gives us so we can send you notifications, if you allow them.
- Technical logs: standard server logs (timestamps, request errors) kept briefly to keep the service running.
How we use it
- To run the app: sign-in, crews, chat, runs, races, notifications.
- To fill in race details when you use the race assistant: the text or link you enter is sent to an AI model (Amazon Bedrock) and public race-listing sites to look up the race. We don't send your identity with it.
- To keep crews safe: reports you file are shown to the crew's owner, and blocks stop direct messages.
We do not sell your data, show you targeted advertising, or share your information with data brokers.
Who can see what
- Crew members see your name, photo, and what you post in that crew.
- If a crew owner makes the crew public, its name, icon, area, description, tags, and saved spots appear on a public webpage and in the app's crew search. Member names, messages, and runs are never public.
- Direct messages are visible only to the two people in them.
Where it lives
Data is stored on Amazon Web Services in the United States. Sign-in email is delivered through Amazon SES. GIF search is provided by Klipy and GIPHY (your search terms go to them; nothing else). Maps use OpenStreetMap tiles. We use these providers only to run the service.
Deleting your data
Open the app → Profile → Delete my account. This immediately removes your account, profile, photo, memberships, RSVPs, race statuses, direct messages, push registration, and sign-in identity. Messages you posted in crews are kept so conversations still make sense, but your name and identity are removed from them ("former member"). You can also email us to request deletion.
Children
Usual Suspects is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll post the new version here and note it in the app.
